where are you from? around this country Italian Americans take part in Columbus day celebrations, Irish in St Patrick day celebrations, Germans in Pulaski day etc... What is wrong with holding the flag of the country where you were born as well as your adopted country. Go to the Penn Relays and watch the HS 4x4, 4x8, or 4x1 Championships. When an American HS team wins (it doesn't happen often anymore) those kids are proud to grab an American flag while still holding little flags of their birth countries (usually Trinidad or Jamaica) Way to go Meb and Abdi way to go USA
Go Abdi, I can not wait for him to beat Keflgzi ass.
I watched Meb in Brooklyn at my in-laws. It doesn't matter about flags for this country or that. Meb is a UCLA Bruin. The greatest sports college in the world. More Olympic Golds that anywhere. Meb, congrats, your the greatest ! Check him out:
#1 enough with the flags already. I'd be much ahappier if the winners held up their shoes, like in the old days.
#2 I am willing to bet there are not many Germans at the Pulaski Day Parade. They were on opposite sides of that war (and both World Wars by the way)
you're gay if you still hold bitter feelings like that.
Yeah f**, you're totally gay if you think that Germans shy away from WWII memorial celebrations. People just need to get over it--Hitler's army had deaths in it too--I think we're far enough away from that war to realize that the causes really didn't matter. God, you gay f**.
Hey retard....if you would have taken your head out of your ass, then you would have noticed that he was wearing both flags. Plus, it took place seconds after finishing, and last time I checked runners who break 2:10 are generally too tired and dazed to worry about adjusting flags so that both are equally showing.
Also....get with the program, this is about the 10th post on the same topic. Not to mention this isn't the first time Meb has worn two flags after finishing.
If you watched closely enough, Meb actually had an American flag underneath the Eritrean flag. I caught a glimpse of it on t.v. But even if he didn't have an American flag, I couldn't blame him since most people in America like to continue on with their racial prejudice by not giving Meb credit where credit is due. He was the bronze medalist but no one, especially the media, seemed to care because he was black, and his family was originally not from this country.

And his PR people still haven't gotten him straight yet. I would not expect him to be a spokesperson for anyone real soon. His feelings for his native country must be huge because it is costing him millions to show his respect.
I realize the flag-waving crowd will draw and quarter me for this, but if I were fortunate enough to be the NYC Marathon winner, I wouldn't carry any flags, US, Irish, German, or otherwise. In fact, I'd probably make sure to thank my sponsors and the sponsors of the marathon first and foremost. Why does every track and field/athletics event have to be so closely tied with nationality? Did Manu Ginobli carry the Argentinian flag when the Spurs won the championship last summer?
Why is it so many people are into bashing Meb, his background, his performance (how dumb, he is so tough) and not be amazed at what we saw before us in yesterday's race. Has there ever been a sprint to the finish, exchanging leads, side by side before? Meb had a great race and finished 3rd. Tergat and Ramaala got me out of my chair to watch that last .2. If posters on this board don't love the sport for what it is, how will America love it and want to pay Meb for wearing the Stars & Stripes?
Hey genius, do you and yuh (or are you the same guy) actually read any of this s*** before you write down your random thoughts? The comment (you're gay) shows your 6th grade mentality. With apologies to sixth graders, who are actually musch brighter than these guys. A previous poster claimed that Pulaski was German, I just corrected him.
My main point is that these guys should all get rid of their flags and keep the politics out of it. That goes for usatf who came up with the brilliant idea of having the winners at championships drape themselves in American flags. Nice move having flags dragging along the ground for a little political statement. For those with a problem, check out teh rules of basic flag etiquette.
Back to your history classes fellows. Is recorder class next or is it Personal development?
meb does himself no favors with his whining...
If Geb were to miraculously become a US citizen, he would never b**** about lack of respect, etc...all you'd see this is the smile...
How do you calm down a bear...with just a little bit of honey...
sorry Ray, meant to write Poland for Pulaski, Steuben for German. Nevertheless let the athletes carry whatever flags they want as long as they don't disrespect their or anyone else's country.
go back
Gee, I might be wrong on this one. But I'm pretty sure Meb, who ran in the Olympics for the US, in case you missed it, is a citizen of the US.
It says GEB not Meb.
I stand corrected. Sorry.
I'm with Ray in the too many flags being displayed department. Since 9/11 the abuse the American flag is taking from "patriotic" citizens is worse than what hostile foreigners are doing to it. One nation under athletics, with equality and respect for all.
