Running the nyc marathon this Sunday. Mostly doing it since I got a last minute entry and im here for the experience, but am curious what the letsrun wisdom thinks I should target (I’d prefer to negative split and enjoy the race)
Background: Late 20s well trained endurance athlete, but almost all my training has been on the bike the last two years. This year, about 15 hours per week on the bike and an hour of running.
Some recent times from the last several months:
4:26 Half iron (2:06
bike, 1:33 run).
1:25 half marathon (at altitude)
36:45 10k on the track
I dont anticipate fueling being an issue, and I regularly do efforts that are longer on the bike, and I don’t expect to be aerobically constrained in any way (by this I mean my legs/lack of recent mileage will be the limiter).
So what do you think? I could in my head see dipping under 3 hours, but I could also see a myself running 3:30.
Lastly, would going out at say 4:30 per k and just slowly building from there be the play, or should I go a little harder and see if I can just hand on?
