Magic Wizard, shot down right out of the gate!
Excellent first post. Telling the self-proclaimed World's Greatest like it is!
Seriously though, there's a lot to find online. You can start with the schedules Canova gave to his stars. Mosop's 2011 day-by-day Boston build is right here on the Board. Moen too, prior to his excellent Fukuoka run. There's a Rodgers Rop schedule on Hodge's site. Now, you may wonder how much that helps you. Well, you can see the type of workouts done and how long progressions, alternators, less specific track sessions, etc. are mixed. You can take certain workouts, add a minute per mile, and do it. In my old age, I add 2! I also space everything out more.
So let's say you see a 35k long run with the last half hard and the last 5k quite fast. Then 16k worth of intervals at closer to half marathon pace. Maybe10 times 2k on/1k float alternation follows. For me, that would be the better part of a month to fit it in with easy days and strides and hills sprints occasionally. Nevertheless, the type of workouts is still a good guide even if you put more time in between and run them slower.
You may see a 40k fast-finish later. Then 8X 3k/1k. 20k of faster track work. You can see how it builds and each workout is not impossible, but a step beyond what's already been done. Of course, exactly what they do, at their paces, IS impossible for us, but if you apply paces for 2:20, 2:30, 3:00, 3:10, whatever, you can do it.
There's a thread entitled:
'Canova for hobby joggers'
Another:
'Is it worth doing Canova on 50 miles a week?'
You will be faster than the OPs in both, but then again, slower than Mosop or Moen. There are good ideas in there. The principles are still sound.
Anyway, good luck.
