Over. 2:26 with 1:10 / 1:16 splits.
I know he ran monster mileage but runs super slow on his training runs. What kind of workouts has he been doing? I’m guessing over 2:20 but still a PR.
2:21:40
1:09:40 , 1:12:00
Love Seth and his brood but am thinking a hair over 2:20.
2:17 with even splits. BUTTER THAT BREAD BABY.
2:26:31
I’m generally a follower / fan of Seth’s, but his training is way too slow for anything near an OTQ.
I’ll say 2:24:10.
Definitely over. I appreciate his content, and love a good race-week build up, but he knows himself that he needs a miracle to go under.
Has potential if he dedicated a full year to a flat marathon, to go under no prob. But he won't do this...
I'm thinking a very small positive split, but 2:24 low would be a very solid return on a block that was (by necessity) completely sub-par. Anywhere 2:24-2:27 I think given his strength/fitness base, but sub-2:20 will be miraculous.
I'm a huge fan, but I also understand the sport, and I don't see how he even sniffs 2:20 at NYC.. he may end being closer to 2:30 than 2:20, just hasn't done enough specific marathon work.
If Seth runs under 2:20, I think that will help grow his brand. He will gain a lot more respect from those who think his training and personality are wacky. I just don’t think he has done enough speed specific quality to make it a reality. He’s not getting any younger. Wish he would just put together a marathon specific cycle and go all in with it before transitioning to mountain running.
I'd imagine he'll do alright. He's run the race before and is familiar with the NYCM peculiarities. His pacing will be much better than the last time out, and he won't run a crazy positive split.
Over. 2:23 with a slower second half (1:09 / 1:14)
Monday morning - "Hey EV. ER. Y. BODY! I know. I know. New York did not go as planned. But...".

This^ guy does a lot of mileage but his marathon "workouts" are terrible and not specific. WIll probably bonk late in the race. I hope I'm wrong because he seems like a nice guy.
I'm in the 2:24-26 boat, too.
If SJD DOES go 2:20 or under, with the training he does, it's either going to re-wire our training theory, or reveal the guy is a 2:08 runner who never did it right.

I get the feeling Seth is expirementing on himself. (My recollection from past races is that he did a lot more faster work.)
My optimistic prediction is he gets under 2:20 if he has people to run with and runs an even pace.
I got him at 2:25, he ran a 1:09 in detroit on a way easier/flatter course a few weeks back. vdot says that is worth a 2:25

Then Seth will be faster than 2:25:00. He has a history of running tune-up races on very tired legs.

Not gonna happen man. Great guy, but he's not in shape to run a super fast marathon
