I am talking about they days when the top guys raced every week chasing a pay check. The days of Ed Eyestone, Keith Brantly, and Jon Sinclair,Bill Reifsnyder and so on. Who is on your list?

Mark Curp - #1 ranked in the world in 1987 and 1988. Also US record-holder in the 1/2 marathon for 22 years until Ryan Hall broke it. D2 Central Mo St grad.
Steve Spence, also a D3 grad from Ship. Great road racer, also won a bronze at the 1991 World Champs marathon.
Must include Greg Meyer.
Sorry meant Spence was also a D2 grad.

+1
Herb Lindsay! He was the very definition of the sort of pro road racer the OP is referencing. Back in 1979 when I was running in HS, he was my hero. Saw him run and win the 10K road championship on the grounds of PepsiCo in Purchase? NY. I raced in the first generation Nike Eagles because that was Herb’s shoe choice.
Along with the names others have already mentioned
Ken Martin
Jon Sinclair
Thom Hunt
Bill Rodgers
Phil Coppess
Kirk Pfeffer
Paul Gompers
Sinclair
Rodgers
Curp
Brewer
Janicki

Don Janicki was a marathon runner. Jon Sinclair and Keith Brantley are a few that come to mind. Bill Rogers was late 70s to early 1980s.

Bill Rodgers had a pretty long running career with limited success in the mid 80s at shorter road races. He definitely raced a lot even into his early forties. He was 2nd to Curp at 85 Bix losing in a kick.

By the mid 80s both were gone.
Janicki raced often on the roads and usually did 3-4 marathons annually.

Don Janicki was not successful in 10ks like some one like Jon Sinclair. Don made the US team at the 1987 World Championship but ran bad their. I would go with Mark Curp, Chris Fox, Jon Sinclair,Keith Brantley to name a few.
