KGW has uploaded a copy of Cain's complaint against Salazar and Nike. It's an interesting read, so I posted it in the "Cain sues Salazar" thread. I'm posting it here, at the front of its own thread, to make it easier to find.

Reading the complaint of a lawsuit gives a false sense of what actually happened. Anyone can file a complaint and say whatever they want.
Mary is immature to file this. She looks like a total gold digger. Her lawsuit is disrespectful to actual abuse victims. She lost a lot of fans today

Your argument is similar to stating: Law enforcement should never charge assault cases because assault cases are disrespectful to actual murder victims.

Just out of curiosity, which parts of her complaint led you to conclude she's "immature"? Which parts make you think she's a "gold-digger," or "disrespectful" to real abuse victims? And what counts are "real" abuse in your book.
I'm asking honestly, so I'd appreciate an honest answer.

You can’t seriously think he read the document before posting his sweeping proclamation.
I totally get where Mary is coming from. She probably feels like Alberto robbed her of her career, and frankly he may have. Maybe he can coach robot Rupp well, but sometimes being a coach involves a little more tact and many people agree he is truly an “anything to win” type of guy.
That being said, I don’t think it reflects well on Mary to do this. Alberto has been banned. You’re story was in the New York Times. Public opinion is on your side and you have many avenues to move forward in life, some of which you’ve already started. I get that if you can get a million dollar settlement, it might seem stupid not to, but it doesn’t look good and there’s plenty of ways to make a million dollars as a semi-famous person.
Thank you. Let's hope that all the trolls and PR shills will now stop pretending that that was all about her weight.
A bit contradictive from plaintiff stating the role of coach was to "befriend, mentor.." if anyone befriends me, they then have the right and privilege to criticize, make fun of, shame, etc., as any friend is meant to do in a relationship. Judge may toss this out.
I read through most of the complaint and complaints like this are by definition one sided and skewed as much as possible. So they can often seem very persuasive towards the plaintiffs arguments. However, I do not find her arguments persuasive at all. Perhaps if one is not familiar with elite athletics they are more so. But aspiring elite athletes absolutely abuse their bodies in their pursuit. And for every one that is successful, there are a dozen who’s bodies just broke down. But those elite athletes don’t sue because their coach was mean and they got injured.

If this somehow works, and she extracts $20M or even half of that, you can bet Kara, Jordan et al follow suit. It's practically FREE MONEY.
I'm honestly just wondering what her end game is here and who decided this was the course of action to take. Why go public with your story and then wait over a year and THEN sue?
I think what happened to her is terrible and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, but I'm kind of perplexed by the timing and legal strategy here.
Portland is well known for low settlements.
I don’t see this complaint ending up anywhere close to what she’s asking. They will be settling for much less. First this is a he said she said case. She will need witnesses to help her prove the things he allegedly said. Secondly there is a statute of limitations. Likely many of her so called injuries she blames him on will be taken out of the complaint by a judge because it’s been over a year. If they remain she will need to prove without a doubt that Al caused them. Very hard to do. The only “injury” I see holding up is emotional abuse and that isn’t worth even a million. Sounds like sour grapes - ended up not being such a great runner and blames it on others
Read through this complaint. Basically a he said/ she said that will be hard to prove without any witnesses. Also there is a one yr statute of limitations on “damages”. So all those running injuries she blames Al on will probably be tossed out. That leaves emotional distress which is hard to prove. That is definitely not worth near one million. She’s a sore loser looking for easy money and can’t take responsibility for her own failures. This complaint will ruin her already shoddy reputation
Any corroborating evidence for all these accusations? The lawsuit makes it seem like the only thing Salazar ever did was berate and call the defendant "fat".
But, reading through the complaint, it sounds horrific and to a jury, will sound damning. Salazar is in deep trouble here. He will be held guilty. This is a very compelling presentation.
My question is, what were her parents doing ? It was clearly a bad fit from the get go.

#metoo...amirite?
Zero UPFRONT COSTS.
You don’t pay us anything unless we win your case.
Well that's a good thing because Nike won't go quietly on this one.
Kara Goucher has already come out about Salazar berating her for being fat. I also heard this from people who watched Kara and Galen do workouts with Salazar before WC. Salazar just ripped Kara the entire time even though she was hammering it during the workout. So, Cain's allegation about Salazar and her weight is credible.
What is interesting about Cain's allegations about Salazar basically training her into the ground is the contrast with how Salazar was so protective of Rupp. Salazar was always pulling Rupp out of races if he had any sort of injury concern and even to the point of pulling Rupp out of XC because Rupp didn't like the course (thus, giving rise to LRC message board's "Rupp Certified").
I don't think that Cain is gold digging. She works for Tracksmith and started Atalanta. Her parents have money and it wouldn't surprise me if she had a trust fund or at least has a very soft financial cushion if she has any trouble supporting herself. I think her motivation is in line with what she said over the summer about her goal of fixing women's sports. Allyson Felix is a board member of Atalanta. Felix is also very outspoken about Nike's treatment of female athletes. If anything, I think the goal of this lawsuit is to expose Nike's treatment of female athletes and to make sure that Salazar doesn't creep back into Nike in two years and go back to his old ways.
And the message board reaction to Cain's lawsuit is really why Cain needed to do this and why so many female athletes have been coming out with concerns about mental health. Nike sees its sponsored athletes as products. If an athlete can't take the heat, they need to get out of the kitchen as there is always another runner with top potential who would eagerly jump at the chance to join a group like NOP and get sponsored by Nike. Cain wants to change that relationship and put a duty on sponsors and coaches to be responsible for the physical and psychological toll of their actions.
