Tell us about your last two months of training. Miles per week, key workouts (reps/pace/rest)
How have your most current races been going. What was the terrain of those races. What is the terrain of the races you have coming up.
What kind of times did you run in track?
What you should do is: whatever your coach tells you. Even if you don’t have a good coach, they’ve probably at least run or coached before.
It’s your first season, so anything could happen. You could end up running 17:00 in 4 weeks if the 17:40 was poorly paced, easy, while you were fatigued, etc.

i started my first race of the season with around a 19 min 5k, and i worked my way down to a 17:40 in a couple of meets. i think in the summer i run for about a month and half and ran 120-140 miles in total, i had like 1 or 2 30 mile weeks that summer but i was doing mostly 20-25 miles. and now im doing around 30-35 miles a week for the past 6 weeks.
