Dear Sir or Madam:
I sincerely accept your apology for disrespecting my statement that Wisconsin could do a team tempo run at Big 10s and still win. My assertation turned out to be even more accurate than I once thought. They could have just jogged(as a team)with Minnesota's top runner and still won easily. I know that not everybody can know as much as me, so I forgive your for your moronic criticism.
Wisconsin had their day in the sun. They will likely open another can of whoop-ass at their regional before losing a close one to the Hogs in Indiana.
Sincerly,
Blackorwhite

what happened to the other thread about big 10's???
wtf? -
ah, but the true question is could they have joggled at big 10's and still won?

I forgot to send a special thank you to Jerry S. for finally racing Matt Withrow. I kicked ass in my fantasy league this week because of him.
Check out my top 5:
Boit (Ark)
Cormier (Ark)
Nef (Stan)
Withrow (Wisco)
Schoolmester (Buffs) -
Top five for what? The NCAA???? Cormier and Nef will not crack the top ten.

definitely think he meant his top 5 runners on his team for some NCAA XC fantasy league he's in

This was my fantasy team for the last week, duh. I am planning my strategy for NCAAs right now. I think I am going to run Rohatinsky instead of Nef and Kosgei instead of Cormier.
-
Rohatinsky over Nef is a no-brainer dude. Are you kidding?

I applaud wisco for NOT doing a tempo run. Last years attempts at team workouts during meets didn't work out too well for them at nats.

I would have to agree. 23:30 for Bairu and 24min for everyone else is not a tempo. -
A hint: Kosgei would have beat Commier if not for the cutting incident.
-
Wisco is really preparing for a fast start to the national race... if it plays out that way, I would not be surprised if their 5-7 finish in front of Jefferson, instead of behind him like they did at conference, because if you look at the splits and pictures, he ran much more conservative than Ford and Nelson who were right up with the Badger's top four in the earlier stages of the race. Not to mention that those guys are naturally more focused on the 10k distance.
-
They'll still lose. Not enough racing.

I love know-it-alls like runningart. This site has more trolls than espn.com!

As regards not enough racing for the UW team, several thoughts. Last year Withrow ran three races: US Nationals XC/qualified for WCXC; WCXC/top US finisher; 5000m 13:35. I am not sure he needs to race very often to do well (actually, he did do an indoor 5000m as he was getting into shape in the winter and ran a seriously negative-split 8:02 or so running solo [he might have lapped everyone] in the second 1500 on an unbanked track).
When was the last time Simon really lost an XC race, including Big 10s (3xChamp), Griak (2xChamp), NCAAs (defending Champ), Canadian National XC (2 or 3-time Champ) so he seems to be able to run well off of not too much racing (well the Worlds are a different cup of tea, but I suspect that Bekele could take on most of the top NCAA runners even if they ran a relay 4x2500m).
Most of the team had one hard race before Big 10s, and some had two. Then Big 10s, then Regionals, then NCAAs. This is not like HS where you run into shape and learn how to race. They seemed to race well enough that eight of them dusted a set of All-Americans and half that dusted the other one (3:55 miler and XC runner SJ).
I wonder what their workouts are like, trying to figure out who is going to race at the NCAAs. The top two All-Big 10 2nd Team runners (or some 1st Team guys) are not going to make it, even though some of them are seniors. -

WHY?????

That is just the problem with Wisconsin. Burning out with Tempo Run at useless Big 10s leads to crash and burns. Look at Finnerty look at Wilmot all because of Big 10 weakness/foolishness to even compete. This debate is still very relevant today I am willing to take on all of you singlehandedly.
