Vaporfly. Almost all Nike runners used it in the Olympics.

People can be so dense. Runners aren't just runners anymore these days. Kipchoge is so obvious in his hawking of... whatever.
Having run similar profile marathons with both shoes, I will go with the alphas from now on. They still feel like supershoes after mile 16. The next %2s, not so much.

So why didn´t they tell Rupp to wear Next%?
Buy the Vaporflys. Vast majority of the pros prefer it over the Alphaflys which are the shoes Nike clearly wants to push. This is because the general consensus among runners is that the Alphaflys are inferior to the Vaporflys. Theyre less stable and the inclusion of the zoom air unit in the forefoot necessitates a drastic change in the implementation of the carbon fiber plate, which negatively impacts performance.
Why would Nike jeopardize the performance of their signature shoe by implementing the useless zoom air tech, you ask? Marketability. That's it. The Alphaflys are all looks. Nike knew they had something special with the Vaporflys but it didnt look special. So they added zoom air, to create an easily recognizable look, then they added that sane zoom air to their track spikes (again for looks). What they want is for you to associate that distinct look with the success of the vaporfly. The Maxflys, Victorys, and Alphaflys are still all good shoes. Great shoes even, but it's no thanks to the zoom air unit.
And it just so happens that in the case of the Alphafly, it's despite it. The Vaporfly is the superior alternative.
