F**an was incredible today at Big Easts, running completely alone after the first kilometer but looking smooth and in control the whole way. This monster effort has got to place him in the mix for the individual title at NCAA's.

Merrick ran 23;51 for 5 miles (8056 meters), worth 23;44 for 8km. Yes, it was an 8km CR, but intrinsically weaker.

Is this true?
I saw the guy come very close to a very good coarse record at the Penn State invitational, was jogging around.very under rated guy.he was smilling going around VCP, made benninger look average
the next keith kelly
actually its a george carlin reference, "7 dirty words", with t i t s left out at the end because that word is so fun it should be a snack food. tatertits, titz crackers, etc.
but now that you mention it is also a nice song by blink182
He looked amazing today. He was laughing at times. Top 5 at ncaa's I think.
Very true!

Eric Carter (Penn State) also ran 23:51 in the early 1980's to tie Merrick's time.
An interesting question perhaps is how much the course has changed since the renovation in 1996 . . . how much faster is it now than it was when Merrick ran in 1975 ? 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds ?
the next martin Fagan.
I was going to say the same thing, PC's next Individual champ? The Providence guys usually seem to start hot and then fade, but Martin seems to be coming into form at the perfect time.
I ran VCP both before and after the renovation, its faster, but still a very tough course.
Anybody know what Keith Kelly's PR was at Vanny?
Should be an intersting Regionals between Martin and Kiplagat in a few weeks time.
Enlarge this photo several times to see how harsh the old course was. Rocks, tree roots and ruts everywhere.
Yesterday, the course was being smoothed and groomed by the parks dept before and during the races.
