It's wack, but I'm gonna save my judgment for after we see the races.
I dont understand why theyre doing this at what is supposed to be a major championship event, but I am intrigued.
Fewer turns so theoretically it should be faster. Super track to super charge super shoes.
Yeah you can definitely see the trend of "taking events to the streets" etc but I don't like this tbh - especially in the Diamond League final. All for street meets as promotional events where the athletes can still make some $$$, but I don't think you run a season on certified tracks and then it's THE final race and you are like "Oh now you are running on a 560m egg shaped track, good luck". Field events seem to work a little better but even then you take away the experience for the athletes of competing in the main arena in front of 25000 fans.
In general seems like forced innovation that doesn't really have a point.
That can't possibly be true and unless the stadium is an open horseshoe shape, it wouldn't even be possible. I also believe the runners would skip the race if it was true.
isn't it outside the stadium? also, I don't think it will count for records.
Yes, all of these questions.

Open your mind.

It is absolutely true. The length and shape of the track have been publicized for quite a while including aerial views
I assumed this was already a known quantity

This isn't new information. The Lap Count had a post on it like 6 weeks ago.
Utterly stupid. This is now a sideshow carny spectacle that nobody cares about now or will remember.
I'm not sure what is a worse idea. this or the nutty field event scoring they have been using.
How are they going to contest the steeplechase? It is on the schedule.

Never mind...
I figured out how to translate the article. Appears not every event is on the oversize track.

5000's are the ONLY running events using this Track on Wednesday, ALL other races will be on Thursday in the Stadium with the 400 meter Track.

It's just one 5000 meter race on that weird track around that plaza. I am sure it will not count for anything.

This looks far from a "super track"
