Who knows?
Judging from a brief interview clip I remember from this year it sounds as though he isn't sure himself.
He ran a 13 flat 5k, a world class time 2 years ago.
Even though he should be able to be competitive on the world stage at 5k in theory, the reality is runner who
'move up' rarely find success. Most global medals are won by guys in their 20s. He is soon to be 32.
He's likely doing quite well financially from his contracts. He could surely get a new contract to maintain an above decent standard of living. But is he a global medal threat anymore? I am going to flat out say no. The potential is there but I think we are talking a 5-10% chance at best he would ever medal at a global 5k championship if he continues his career.
He has a thin build and could do well at the marathon I suppose, but does he want to put his body through marathon training after 10 years in the sport?
If I was him I might be inclined to call it a career or simply continue competing, shooting for a global 5k final while knowing a medal is probably out of the cards.. If he's ok with that, sure, continue the pro. runners lifestyle.
Lets say he runs a spring 5k next year around 13:20. That would be an indication he could potentially make another US team.. But is he going to run 13 flat again or better? I doubt it.
It's not that I don't want to see him have more success. I just don't think it's very realistic.
