I'm currently coming back from a hip injury and just started doing workouts again. I don't currently have a goal race or anything on the horizon, just trying to inject some speed/strength work back into the routine.
Because I'm on the mend, I'm trying take some baby steps and not overdo it right away. My mileage is between 25-30 with one workout and one long run. The long term goal is to get back in the 70-80 range and target a spring marathon next year.
For my next workout, I'm thinking about doing like a 10 minute tempo followed by 4x200 fast to ease back into harder/faster stuff. Would there be any benefit to a workout like this? I read in Advanced Marathoning that tempo work > interval work in marathon specific training, but I just don't know if that short of a tempo block makes any sense?
Debate amongst yourselves.
