wow. Barega, Kiplimo, Ingebrigtsen x2, Chelimo, Stewie, Ahmed, Edris, Kimeli, Krop.
rematch of Jacob vs Jakob is the big story here.
400 is better
With McSweyn and Jakob in the race, little risk that this will dawdle like the Pre 2 Mile. Should be very fast. At 8:50 in the evening, even better. Temps next weekend of 67/49 or thereabouts. Ahmed should get a huge pr. Maybe we'll get low 7:20s.

would think so. But a lot of these guys are showing signs of burn out after the olympics, and this is a very quick turn around with BIG travel right after Prefontaine.
I am cautiously optimistic of how this will turnout.
Somebody stated in another thread that the pacemakers are scheduled to run 59 per lap. If this is true it can be a very fast race.
I suppose that the athletes have travelled directly from Eugene to Switzerland so hopefully they are well recovered on match day.
We are "only" missing Cheptegei, Gebrhiwet, Walnet, Katir and Kejelcha.
I have stated in other threads that Jakob is the guy to beat now from the 1500m to the 5000m and I maintain he will be the clear favorite here. But a pity he won´t compete against the Tokyo gold medalist in the 5000m Joshua Cheptegei.
I hope the pace will be kept honest after the pacemakers drop out so the 59 per lap pace continues.

59 flat?

Well I got the top 4 for Pre correct…I am going to go:
1. Jakob 7:26.7
2. Selemon 7:27.1
3. McSweyn 7:28.8
4. Ahmed 7:28.9
That´s how I understood it. Also mentioned 7:23 as target (59 per lap =7:22.5).
I don´t think it unrealistic if they bring their A game and if the weather and pacemaking are good.
Jakob ran 2000m last year in 58 in average per lap (more like 4 x 59 and 1X 54) under "the Impossible Games".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5uJnyOL7Xg
So he should be able to run 2000m in 4:55 and then go 2.5 more laps in 59 after one more year of aerobic training under his belt.
Also: Jakob and McSweyn ran the mile in Eugene in below 57 per lap.
I was answering to jiggymeister´s:
"59 flat?"
Yes I agree that is is a reasonable target, if conditions allow. I just wanted to make sure if its 59.0. Thanks for the information.

I stated above I hope for more:
1. Jakob 7:23.5
2. Selemon 7:24.0
3. Jacob 7:25
4. Stewie 7:26
I hope Jacob Kiplimo will be back on a high level as last year.
I don´t see Mo Ahmed come close. See how far behind he was in the Bowerman Mile!
It will be interesting to see how fast Kipsang can go in the longer distance.
I'm rooting for Edris and Girma Lamecha.
I don´t believe in Edris but I recognize Girma might run fast considering his indoors 3000m in the early season.
Edris is two world Champion of the 5000m, the 2012 U20 World Champion 2012.
If he is in "his day" something can happens.
I don't trust too much Selemon and confess that Kiplimo wasn't at the level of my expectations this year.
Then comes Ahmed the Canadian hype.

I've seen many races where the pacer runs about 20 meters or more in front of the pack. It can be random whether the top runners follow the pace set by the rabbit.
Eh I am just hoping Ahmed had some jetlag or other issues at Pre, he's never been great in the shorter stuff, and I am hoping he brings his Olympic 5000 form to play.

Does anyone else wonder what Moh could do in a marathon?
Mo won't break 7:35
