Why was Kaylin Whitney a 100/200 runner pacing an 800? I couldn't think of a worse pacer choice, well ahead of the wavelights in 26.7/54.19. Probably too fast of an opening 200/400, but maybe not totally unreasonable. Could have been way worse given her complete lack of experience.
It was unfortunate that it was too fast ... but Whitney is a 400 runner now. She's been running them all year and was on the mixed relay in Tokyo (I think).

I think as a general rule, pacers need to have ran the distance they are pacing in a race. Fine for an 800m runner to be pacing a 1500m (i.e. Price) or a 400m runner to be pacing an 800m, but it should be a 400/800 type rather than a 100/200 runner who recently moved up to the 400m. It was a bad choice.
wasn't that far off. If Mu wanted the record, low 55s first lap To high 57/low 58 second lap would be appropriate.
Maybe if she races like that a couple more times, she is able to finish it somewhere down the road. She took her body somewhere it hadn't been. But with her speed, maybe it seemed realistic.
