Can someone give me the breakdown on the advantages and disadvantages of doing my weekly tempo run at 40 mins vs. 60 mins?
When training for shorter races (5k-1/2 Mar) I use a 40 min tempo run as part of my weekly training, so when I started training for a marathon I moved up to a 60 min tempo run but I've heard from some "local elite" runners that a 60 min tempo run is really a marathon pace run and doesn't get me the same benefits as a slightly faster 40 min tempo run. Should I be concerned about this?
