I think many athletes, including Rupp, Ritzenheim, Farah, Hassan and others would disagree with your statement. All those athletes improved massively under his tutelage. This is undeniable. Many leading coaches are not necessarily “nice people.”
And yet there are many, many, many others in the sport who have associated with Alberto over the last 40 years that do agree with my statement. I'm not asking for nice - I'm asking for a decent human. He ain't it.
You could say the same thing about game changing leaders in the world, for example people like Steve Jobs. For the vast majority people Steve Jobs was a very difficult and challenging person to work with and for many downright horrible to work with but he produced results. Salazar also produced results. Bobby Knight the same in basketball. All these people were leaders in their respective fields.
I suspect that Alberto Salazar might have suffered from some form of autism or even Asperger’s syndrome looking at his whole behavior over the years and his fundamental extreme introversion, and frequent hostility to selective others. This is a character trait but it is not indictable.
I am looking at the fact that he was a game changing coach and innovative leader in his field - unmatched and possibly will be unmatched for eternity in his quest for excellence. I think the way he has been treated for these past two years has been very poor and unjustified. Goes beyond being nice or decent.
