Pam Reed: glorified fast walker or real runner?
Pam Reed: glorified fast walker or real runner?
WALKER AT HER VERY BEST. 18 MINUTE MILE FOR 300 MILES? PLEASE.
dean karnazes is a glorified pam reed.
tucson is hot, it's science.
Pam Reed is so hot right now!
Will somebody nuke all pam reed threads?
Puh-leeeeeze?
What's funny about this thread is that Pam Reed will have done much more for the sport than any of you will ever do with your 19:00 5K's. Grow up, grow a pair, and have some class. Also, find a hobby that doesn't involved BASHING runners who are much better human beings than you.

Much better human beings? That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. You must not know her...
I'm not sure how much she's "done for the sport." Everytime the general interest media devotes attention to her or Dean K while ignoring sprinters, middle distance runners, and distance runners (marathon and below), I'd actually call that a BAD thing. Those who saw Dean K with Letterman, who is more "runner friendly" than any mainstream talk show host," noticed that Dean was one of Letterman's least favorite guests. Dean had almost nothing to say for himself, and Letterman seemed to think he was bizarre.
I don't know what show - "60 Minutes" or "Dateline" or whatever - did the long segment on Pam Reed, whose family seemed fairly miffed by her odd obsessions, but more would have been "done for the sport" if a segment of the same length had been done on Deena Kastor, Meb Keflezighi, Kenenisa Bekele, Lornah Kiplagat, or Justin Gatlin.

Am I to understand that you can make a cogent argument to describe why Pam Reed, mother of two and famous ultrarunner, is LESS superior to anonymous message board ---- 354, mother of a huge stash of illegal drugs, a RAM full of pornography, and a generally wasteful piece of crud who enjoys the view from mom's basement?
Please, I will enjoy reading that...
It shouldn't be called ultrarunning. It should be called speed hiking. Running has nothing to do with it.
Out.
tell me what she has done for Tucson running or for running as whole?
Her contribution to running is negligible. I'd even call it negative. What she does actually plays into the notion that runners are all nutballs.
Isn't she director of the Tucson Marathon? Shouldn't you at least do the same for your town before you criticize her contribution.
by most accounts she's a fairly horrible race director.
Like someone said yesterday, these ultra races shouldn't even have a determined length or set finish line. The last one standing up should be declared the Winner.

For starters, Pam Reed only cares about herself and her ego. "Running" the 300 mile "race" was simply a means of self-promotion. She wanted the world to be centered around herself for doing some an amazing thing. Please note the sarcasm at the end of that last sentance. Pam did not want Dean K to steal all the glory.
Concerning the Tucson Marathon, that race is a sham. It had the possibility of becoming a great event. However, there are numerous problems with the event. First, the course is awful. Who wants to run along a highway for 26 miles? There is very little course support. The food at the end sucks. The awards suck. NO prize money. Wait, you get $100 for breaking a course record- wahoo! If you do win an award, you HAVE TO PAY to get it shipped to you. This is after the exhorbitant fees for the race, which get you nothing. And this award is a cheap ass sand painting that probably costs $.25 down in Mexico. People are finally starting to see this and are heading up to the Rock and Roll up in Phoenix.
I've heard reports (and have no conclusive evidence), that her family is all screwed up.
Concerning me, you've got things all wrong. No porn, haven't lived with my parents since I was 18, never done drugs, and can assure you that I've done more for running than her. However, I will not go more into specifics.
Lastly, your meaningless insults show that you have no basis for an argument, and you are simply wrong.

But this is your opinion, not fact.

Again, an opinion. If you don't like the course, don't run the race.

And if not having conclusive evidence were common around here...of wait, IT IS!

Very well, apologies for the insults, but I get tired of seeing people bash runners, and to be honest, I really don't think you made any sort of case for Pam Reed being such a bad person.
Well then, if this is the case, what exactly has she done? You make it sound like she is the best thing to ever happen to running.

"runners"? She's not a runner.
