One of the best coached teams in the Nation!
Andy Gerard AND Julie Henner!
If you go there you will become faster. The will be very good very soon.
Much more importantly- if you go there yo will be coached by the hottest coach in the country. No not Gerard, he is 2nd!
Mr. Magness you will do well there. Gerard and Henner (Julie) will have you running sub 3:55 by years end. Good luck.
alan webb goes there....really
I'm from that area and a friend's older brother ran there. To start with, GMU is in the middle of the suburbs and surrounded by roads. Any decent running on trails requires a drive. Over the summer I would see them at a nearby park a lot. Excellent facilities with an indoor track that hosts the VA indoor state meet and a great outdoor track. The campus is spread out some, but there is a bus system that runs throughout it. The new coaches are obviously going to have a big impact on the program, there's a lot of potential. The academics are underrated I think, they are some solid programs.
The new dorms are really nice there. They have a Damon's Grill Sports restaurant on campus now and the chicks are pretty hot. Check out GMU's facebook.com. There is an okay nitelife around the Fairfax area, it gets old after a while. That's why everyone there goes to D.C. to party, only 20 min drive away when there's no traffic.
I used to run there, excellent sports medicine people if you are hurt, like I was alot of the time (pre-Gerard training methods).
Majority of the classes are at the main Fairfax Campus, so it's rare that you'd have to take the cue bus to the other campuses.
Gerard and Henner are the best coaches in the country. They just started there and are building a program from scratch. Whoever goes there will hit the jackpot as far as running is concerned. You will get VERY fast.
Do not judge GM by the team they presently have. Neither Gerard or Henner have had a recruiting year yet. The smart guys are the ones who get in this program before it really gets going and is up there with Arkansas, Colorado and Stanford. In a year or two, scholarships will be very hard to get there.
Julie Henner ran the 1500m in the Olympics. Gerard was NCAA National Coach of the Year at Stanford. His team won the national championship in cross country in 2003. They will do an incredible job at GM.
