I've seen an a couple of videos now where pro marathoners put on spikes for a track workout during the build up for the Olympics, the latest being Molly Seidel in a Sweat Elite-video.
As someone who's never run in spikes there's something drawing me towards getting a pair. In part because training in them seems like something that will benefit my racing in longer distances on the road(if the olympians do it, it must be good, right?), and also because doing a few track races seems like a fun way to break up the monotony of the off season and I wanna cool like the cool kids who use spikes and TikTok (but I'm old-ish and hate meaningless videos of dancing and cats, which leaves spikes as my only option).
Soooooo...
What are the benefits of doing some track work in spikes for someone mainly doing 10k to marathon on the roads, if any?
Which spikes would you recommend for that purpose(training and races from 3k up)?
How should I go about getting used to them? Start out with a few strides and play by ear from there?
