On August 19th, God willing, it will be 29 years of three miles a day or more. Closing in on 50 years running, training and racing total. 45 mpw plus for the 5 1/2 last years. I don't think it has hurt my racing performance. There were a couple of 3-4 mile days after marathons or the ultra I ran and won, that probably didn't help any, but certainly didn't hurt.
To answer the question, "would" I decide to stop? Or could I?
The answer is yes to both. Knowing of course that every single run and every day on Earth could be my last.
Nice job, especially the three per day.
I'm in my 45th year or running, closing in on 16 year "streak". I could stop either the streak or running at all anytime I wanted, and would not feel bad about it.
But I agree with you...why stop either? Sort of like Lou Gehrig, sometimes I consider myself the "luckiest man on the face of the earth" to be running this long at all. My last run will come sooner now than later, so why not go out and do what I like while I still can?
I don't know for sure, but I think that most runners that have long streaks going, don't go out every day and do it for "the streak". I think they go out every day just because they like it.
