Yes Kerley won the silver, but he would have been on the gold medal favorite 4x4 if he went for the 400. He probably could have grabbed the silver or bronze in the 400 anyway.

Now look back at your post and ask yourself what could possibly be the reason Kerley went after the 100 and what would earn him more, a 4x4 gold or 100m silver.
Kerley didn't screw up. Ronnie Baker really screwed up. Ronnie Baker took off to late and when he put his hand back it was moving all over the place. Kerley never ran over him. And to make it worse they put their slowest guy on Anchor who was passed by 4 teams.

Kerley had his big hand right in the middle of the baton, he didn't give Baker any surface area to grab. They both made critical errors. Kerley probably wasn't coming in at full speed during practice which screwed off Baker's timing.

It's always hard to second guess. Id probably prefer a silver medal in the 100m over a gold ,4x400. But moving forward I think he'll move back to the 400. I wouldn't be shocked if a few people, Kerley have their eyes on moving to the 400. We'll see what Rai Benjamin and Warholm want to do. The 400 does look wide open right now. It only took a 43.8 to win it this years. Also, we'll see if Van Neikerk ever comes back. He'll probably have one more Olympics.
