Dude I was just going to post this. That was the most obvious false start to dip out of a race ever. I mean it's the best way - you can't start and just walk off the track after 50m or else you risk being DQ'd from the entire meet so why not just do this and not even risk it/spend an extra ounce of energy.
I do wonder why you wouldn't just scratch but maybe the old Kenyan crack-admin team missed the cut-off and he had to run?
Either way that was so obvious and very funny.
Might be past some deadline…but hilarious nonetheless and doesn’t screw up the rest of the field, so a good move to do
I literally laughed out loud.

I don’t think there’s an honest effort rule in the olympics.
Read up on Makhloufi in 2012….there is

Yeah, there actually is kimosabe - and as someone above me mentioned, Makloufhi nearly didn't make his Olympic final in 2012 because of it.
If he had started that race without intending to finish it he would have needed to feign a pretty solid injury that for sure would have been hard to explain given he's running in the 800m semis tonight.
My guess is that he entered both the 4 and 8 and wanted to see if he made it through the first round in the latter (because the program makes it impossible to do this double). If he didn't he would have run the 4, but he did and I am going to guess that scratchings for the events maybe 48 hours prior which means that they didn't have time to get him out. So luckily for him it's pretty easy to get yourself DQ'd in the 400m with a false start and he did the absolute right thing.
Again it was just awesome he didn't even try and sell it, he just popped off at "set". Perfect.
