I'd just like to say that triathletes are great athletes. Period.
Back in my running snob days I used to think that triathletes were those who couldn't do any of the three sports well and were narcissistic arrogant bastards.
Boy, was I wrong.
Many years ago, a top pro American triathlete lived at my house.
His daily training routine:
Wake up and go to the pool for an hour or more.
Come home, eat, then go for a 100+ mile bike ride.
Come home, eat, take a nap and then go for a 10 mile run.
Come home, eat, sleep, wake up, repeat. Every day. Easily trained 8 hrs. a day.
Dude was a BEAST. He was like 6'2" and around 180.
He asked me once to pace him on a 10-miler and I couldn't hang with him. 5:00 pace.
Nicest guy in the world but he humiliated me.
At the time I was the local Albuquerque running stud, winning just about everything on the roads.
He was top American at Hawaii Ironman that year.
Yeah, triathletes are real athletes.
