Independent Olympians at the Olympic Games. Independent athletes have come from the Republic of Macedonia, East Timor, South Sudan and Curaçao following geopolitical changes in the years before the Olympics, from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (present-day Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia) as a result of international sanctions.

Many Olympians have a specific skillset that doesn't translate well to, say, an office job. Many of them didn't go to or finish school because their training took over. And while some athletes become famous enough to live off endorsement deals and their new celebrity, most don't have that option.
And only a coach is needed there? I always thought that there are many more people responsible for an athlete
Heck you can win a gold medal without one. Look at women's road cycling.
I think it is possible, but the couch is a person who teaches and explains everything. Also, don't forget that sportsmen started doing sports when they were kids and they all had couches.

Ryan Crouser claims to he somewhat self-coached, with technical input from various mentors

I think Bill Squiers coached Bill Rodgers for a large portion of his elite career.
Simone Biles.... wouldn't be surprised if the "coaches" were there just to go get her coffee. She needed a Bela Karolyi.

Sadly I grew up in a home with only sofas.
