"Honestly, I’m just having fun right now in college.. The pros are always going to be there. College is not always going to be there.” David Woods has an excellent piece out on Hocker. In it ,he asks whether Hocker would be allwoed to sign a 7 figure deal with Nike and still run for Oregon. The answer seemed to be yes but it wasn't totally clear. Note there is Oregon state law that prevents him from running for another company like adidas as it conflicts with Oregon's own deal with Nike. What was more important I thought was this:
David Woods wrote:
His parents said their son is not motivated by money. Janet Hocker, mother of Cole, recently asked what he is lacking now. His answer: Nothing.
“He doesn’t even want a car. He’s different in that way,” Kyle Hocker said.
Last week, in a Zoom call to teen runners at a cross-country camp, Cole Hocker said he would make an announcement about his future in four to six weeks, presumably after the Tokyo Olympics.
“Honestly, I’m just having fun right now in college,” Hocker said during the Olympic Trials. “It’s one of those things where there could be regrets later on. As long as I stay healthy, the pros are always going to be there. College is not always going to be there.”
There was one thing in the article thought that blew my mind. His dad says they haven't been presented with a single offer. How can that be true? Kessler has been signed for multiples of millions and no one has even talked to his parents?

Hocker, 20, of Indianapolis, has not been involved in negotiations with Nike or any other company, according to his father, Kyle.
“We don’t even have a base point,” Kyle Hocker said. “We’re talking about something that hasn’t been presented yet.”
Here is the article. I had to pay to read it but it's possiblle you don't have to.
