Craig Engels goes home devastated

I'm sure some of the old heads here hate on him because he is the "high school kid idol" and might seem "extra" to them but I like Engels. We are both from NC and I've always got to pull for North Carolina guys. He will be 30 next trials so there's a shot he makes the 2024 Olympic team but it will be very, very tough even without Centro (I'm guessing Centro will be running the 5k by then but who knows). I was hoping he would make it this year as without Cheriyout it could be a tactical race that would suit him well, and give him a shot at a medal.

No reason at all to hate on Engels. He's been great for American 1500m running. I'm sad he's not going.

If Hocker doesn't Q than he goes. Let himself get too boxed in as usual.

I'm devastated for Craig, but he let that race get away from him. h\He was in such a tough spot to qualify from 400 to go.

people on this forum have built hype around him because of his marketing. With all of the support he gets from the magical Nike doctor he should be faring much better. Honestly he’s just not good enough to compete with the big boys.

Big fan here. He was sitting pretty in third, but as soon as he let himself get passed by suliman and terribly boxed it was over.

Centro is such a tactical genius

Why do people forget about the World Championships? Some athletes have said the WC's are a bigger deal for T&F than the Olympics.

Every race I see with Engels I think "This guy is a terrible tactician" and this race did nothing to change. Even Nuguse is lane 2 most of the race was a better move.

Good he can cut his hair now. Looks cool when you win. Now just looms like a pedo.

dude, Engels is probably gonna go to a party and have some beers with his friends and enjoy his life. dude seems happy and going to the olympics or not does not seem to change that for him. we should all be so lucky.

Contrast to Centro's positioning. Centro was always in control of that race and it would have been like Mu's race if not for Hocker's massive kick.

The title should really read HS kids go home devastated because their favorite Instagram follow didn’t make it. Congrats to the 3 best milers in the country not the ones who have the best Instagram posts or stupid facial hair

There were 4 very good runners vying for 3 spots. We knew one of them was going to be staying home. It sucks but that’s just the way it goes. I wish we could bring all 4, maybe to Worlds next year.

Staying wide is smart in a slower race. If it's rabbited and strung out, you need to stick in lane 1.
