10 Weeks to go from Goal HM to Goal 3K ~ 1500M is there enough time

The answer is the same as when you wanted to run an 8k a few weeks before the 3k. 8k/hm is a fine base for middle distance running and 6-8 weeks of the fast stuff gets you pretty close to your peak.

Thanks for the response. Thanks for pointing out a earlier post, but these are different circumstances. The original post asked if you could race a 8k and the.n Have enough time 4 weeks (very short to still get the 3k type work in.

Running a much longer Half Marathon and having 10 weeks to prepare for the 3K seems to be quite a different question.

Yes. It is more than enough time.

3k-hm are the same event with slightly different nuances. If you didn't have a HM, would your 3k training be much different? Not really. Up until 8-12 weeks before the race you would be doing a base of tempo runs, short hills, and some aerobic intervals. Sounds a lot like 10k/HM training right?

Other than 2 or 3 easy days to recover from the HM, what are you worried about?

Good point. Thanks. Having never raced a HM I’m still not sure how the training was going to look. As of now it will be 4 week cycles of 80-80-80-60. Looking for something along the lines of 1:14-1:17

I think it's fine. Would maybe like a little more time but it's incredibly common for mile-5k runners to do a base block over the winter with more strength workouts and decently high mileage. A lot of them don't race a half during that time but could if they wanted to.

I would find some races after March too. It's sort of like that 1st race would be a season opener. I would try to put some more races on the calendar through May/June and treat it like an outdoor track season before shutting it down.
