Correct me if I'm wrong but as of now hocker doesn't have the olympic standard which would make him uneligible to make the team regardless of where he places? Will this incentivize a fast trials race or a fast ncaa outdoor race? I bet kipsang will push the pace regardless
He doesn’t need it because he could get in on world ranking if he is too 3 at the Trials.
If Kipsang takes it out he will get the standard in a few hours anyway.

will they give world rankings precedence over the standard though? I thought they were to be used if the country didn't have 3 athletes with the qualifying time. If hocker gets 3rd at the trials and the 4th placer has the standard, wouldn't they send the other guy?

No it’s not standard take precedent over world ranking for the Olympics because if all spots for the quota of the world rankings are filled with guys who have the standard (e.g the 10k currently) you would need the standard to qualify for Tokyo unless you mean at the Olympic trials where if you are top 3 and you qualify for Tokyo through world rankings or time they don’t care as long as you qualify to go and run top 3
