I started running to lose weight 6 months ago (down 35 pounds so far). I decided to track my progress by running a 1-mile time trial every 3 weeks (I read somewhere that it takes 3 weeks for training adaptations to occur). My initial 1-mile time was 8:27. Yesterday I ran 6:53, breaking 7 minutes for the first time. I’d like to get my time below 6 minutes by September (3 months). Do you think this is likely to happen? I’m currently running 30 miles a week with an 8.5 mile long run and I’m about 50 pounds overweight. I’m working to lose about 20 pounds of this by September. What kind of progress do other people generally make with their mile time? Am I hoping for too much? Would sub-6:30 be more realistic?
