The NCAA kids have had a HUGE advantage in terms of training this past year. You need to take that into account.
Rojo is beating a dead horse but why have NCAA kids have a huge advantage in training? Less distractions/partying? Less racing?
Those things too, yes. With outdoor races cancelled last year they were able to get a HUGE build in starting in June, then XC was cancelled and they kept building through the fall, not burning themselves out before track season. Most were also able to stay injury free.
As well, online school is WAY easier for training, because you can watch lectures whenever you want. Many of the top college kids lived and trained like pro runners for the past year.
You'll also notice that the average professional times have not gotten faster since the introduction of the new shoes. It is ONLY localized to NCAA athletes, because the living and training environment for the pros did not change all that much. I cannot stress enough how important online school and a FULL YEAR of base building is for these college kids.
