I haven't run much since my last race in mid-April (4:33 1500 off of 30 MPW). Took two weeks off, then did 15-18 MPW after that. No hard running except for a random time trial once every 10 or so days to break up the monotony.
After hearing about my "training", one of my former teammates bet me $100 that I wouldn't be able to run a sub 5 1600 at an all-comers meet next Friday. Should I take the bet? The most recent workout I did was last Friday, which was a 10x400 averaging 78.2". Yeah, that's slower than 75" pace, but I was wearing bulky trainers (Nike Invincibles) and did the whole thing solo.
I ran one lap every 3 minutes, which comes out to an average recovery time of 1:42. Do you think I have a half-decent chance of pulling this off? FWIW, I ran a mid-67 400 three days ago in those Invincibles (equivalent of a 64" in spikes in a race?) so I might have the speed for it, even though I've barely done any speedwork since April.
Thoughts?
