27:56 in a Heat.
Then 29:04 in b heat which was run immediately afterwards.

Wow.
Isn’t Rupp that guy who had low testosterone and thyroid disease? Honestly impressive where he is today considering those health issues he’s had to overcome!
So this guy runs 57:00 for 20K in two races and a few have gone under 55 in one 20K and who gets singled out as almost a god?

For 20 on the roads: "The world best for men is held by Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea who ran a time of 56:01 at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships in Debrecen, Hungary.[2] The women's world best is held by Florence Kiplagat of Kenya who ran a time of 1:01:54 at the 2015 Barcelona Half Marathon in Barcelona, Spain." OK but Kiplimo, Kandie, Kipruto and Mutiso have broken 55 for 20K enroute to a half marathon in Valencia. My point is that 57 flat is a very good 20K time but it is not unbelievable and the guy did it in 2 races, albeit with little rest.
Put into context, impressive, but not a world beater. I wonder if Rupp is holding back and this is considered part of his training.
Did those 20k guys have to drop a 60sec 400 in the middle of their attempts though? Have you ever felt what it's like to run any aerobic effort with a 60 sec closer? Your whole body hurts after.
I'm not sure losing in a b heat over 29 is impressive for someone who just beat Rupp.
Why did he run twice?
DESTROYED = had a kick. This was a 28-flat race & someone had to win it. Rupp is deep into a marathon build & doesn't have the closing speed rn. We don't really know what would have happened if this race had gone out faster. We know that someone training for a marathon can handle 28-flat pace. If the Trials is won in 27:30, & Rupp runs it, what's his finish time? 27:35 for 5th as he gets outkicked or 28:00 for 12th?
I know Rupp is training for the marathon but I don’t understand him holding back in this race since he only races 2-3 times a year . He’s nowhere near the level of Kipchoge and the other top marathoners . 28:00 is slower than the pace for the half marathon world record .

How is Rupp taking the lead with 4 laps to go "holding back"? He didn't hold back. He tried to win and he got smoked. Scrap talk of Rupp finishing in the top 10 at the Olympics.
"destroys Rupp" lol, ok.
Rupp can, if he feels destroyed, go console himself with his OG medals.

Rojo should write for the National Enquirer.
Yea , sometimes the heavy block of training is thrown out after a bad race . But 28 flat may be ok for a rust buster with a medium pace throughout . Faster pace he runs a 2745 or so and maybe still gets out kicked . But he may not be that far off here . Clearly a marathoner I would def say that at this point

Why did he run twice?
The B heat was clearly a measured effort. The guy who ultimately won went out to lane two on several occasions over the last several laps in anticipation of being passed but Osako was content to sit behind him. Did not kick.
What I meant by holding back is that he may have trained through this race and not tapered at all or as some people suggested he may have done a workout earlier in the day .

Not winning the B heat sounds like a classy move.

Not uncommon to do workouts like this, Daichi Kamino ran 2 x 10k:
