LRC note. We've merged two threads into one. One was called: "Rupp is done." The other was called: "Bring back Alberto. Rupp gets his doors blown off on last lap by Suguru Osako and 3 others in 10,000. Runs 28:00."

The Fall of Galen is upon us.
Yes, end of an era.
Lol, he's going to win Olympic gold. Siedel ran a 8 mile tempo before her 10k i bet Galen did 10. Can't wait to see this thread after the Olympics.
I was too cheap to pay to watch it but enjoyed seeing the final splilt pop up on the screen.
To all of the Alberto haters and Mike Smith fanboys, the following pic is for you:
PS. I don't want to hear any crap about how he's in the midst of marathon training right now and doesn't need to be able to run a fast final 400 - that's far too logical of an argument for me to hear while I'm drinking alone on a Friday night.
How did Derrick do?

28:09. He was in it until it required leg turnover. Feel bad for the guy. You can tell he wants it so badly.

Killed it, second to Osaku. Well under the trials standard.
Yes, the man who won the Olympic Trials by 42 seconds only 15 months ago, ran the fastest time ever by an American-born runner on a legal marathon course three years ago, and is heading to the Olympics for the fourth time is clearly "done."
Man, I wish my career was "done."

He probably did a 20 mile tempo earlier in the day
He didn't enter this race thinking he would win it, or caring about that?
but why tho wrote:

Horrible take

In 2017, he ran 28:18 ftw at The Portland Track Festival and then 29:04 for 5th at USAs. Not sure his performance today marks any appreciable decline from there, and yeah, it’s about what we could reasonably expect for a 35 year old Rupp in marathon training.
WHERE are the results?

Agreed - I think he will be just fine mixing it up in the Olympic marathon (if it happens).
I do not and did not think he could come close to winning the US 10000m title anymore, though.
Ummm... He finished 4th. So that must be Osako and two other guys.
This is such a dumb thread. He is not a track runner anymore. He was losing his speed in the 5/10k a while ago and is probably still in heavy marathon training considering he doesn’t have trials to worry about. 28 for his age and where he probably is in training is good in my opinion.
28:00
59/1:58 pace.
It's fine if he's just training. Not impressive.
It looks like he just got outkicked and did not even finish last among the kickers.
Struggling in a tactical 28 seems a little rough, unless he's in heavy mileage and really facing strong competition.

Is Derrick preparing for a marathon?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
