Depends on the event. Look at the events you are interested in on the results page for the West Region...

In terms of numbers, it is 12 people per event per region that move on. Some events, like the 10k, just have a one section final. Something like the 800m has 6 heats of prelims and then 3 heats of quarterfinals to get the 12 guys.

Thank you. It is the west region that I was concerned with. It is the men's and women's 1500 that I am following. The women's 1500 does not show heats or qualifying information yet.
So they do not run an 800 final at the west regional? Just the 3 heats? So the regionals are a pseudo NCAA prelim?
If someone declares and runs an event in the regional, are they bound via honest effort rules to run that in the championship? Can someone qualify from the regional in the 1500 & 800 but run just the 800 at nationals?
1500 is 4 heats top 5 and next 4 fasted move on to Saturday then top 5 and next 2 go to national meet... you can run 1500 and 800 but if you qualify for nationals you have to run both
yes yes yes yea wrote:

Thank you.
So, there are two second round heats Saturday with 5/5+2 = 12 and the same from the east? 24 at nationals with likely 2 heats of 12 dwindling to 12 in the final? Does this sound like I have it straight?
I very much appreciate your help.
