I don't know but she is maybe the most hit-and-miss athlete of the last decade. Just when you think she vanished she pops up with a 1:59/2:00 then disappears agin.
My understanding, which is limited, is that she has been roesling as she is training to become a roesler.
Per her Instagram, she broke up with whoever she was with previously and is either engaged or married to someone else now. Looks like her last running post was in January. I'm guessing she's retired now since there hasn't been any racing. Hope I'm wrong.
Well as of mid-December, she was still with Pace Sports Management, or at least got a Happy Birthday note from them.
Looks like she’s getting married in October, lives in the Tampa area, and no longer appears to be running.
Seems to be retired.
Rose Monday happened to her. Two potentially great 800 meter runners destroyed by her. First Maggie Vessey, then Laura Roesler.

Pity
Can't speak to Rose Monday's expertise/lack of same, but I do know, having played for many many coaches in ...team...sports, you don't want to be BFFs with your coach. That is a very rare dynamic to see in an ultimately successful coach-athlete pairing. I don't know for a fact that this was the case, but some of the pictures LR posted early in her career...her and coach hanging by the pool looking like giggly besties; her and coach looking much the same outside the stadium at one of the big So Cal meets (maybe just before she turned pro)...It's just not supposed to be. While there are exceptions, the most common dynamic between coach and athlete where success occurs, is: (1) Respect; and (2) Ideally, a little bit of fear. Maybe it's different in individual sports and others came speak to that, but I have a feeling it's not.
Listened to a Podcast of Laura a month or so ago. With some media person from her home town or area. Some discussion of her history, her qualifying for the Olympic Trials when she was 16 years old, and so on. My impression is that the limelight was difficult for her. Also perhaps the (mental) wars of trying to live up to high expectations. I am one of those who have felt - ever since she ran a 2:03 as a 16 year old training in a bad-climate location - that she had a 1:56 in her as she matured.
I also felt that while she was at Oregon and in her post-Oregon races, something was holding her back. Like fear of success, or not mentally seeing herself win in big races. On the latter item, this is part of what good coaching should address - coaches (in my experience) rarely talk about this, but it is super important. She was the pace-runner in the Monaco race when Ajee Wilson ran her American record 1:55. This probably did not help Laura. One race that seemed to be missing: the one run with reckless abandon, tactics be damned, just see what I can do. I am not surprised she is not in the Olympic Trials - she sounded in the podcast like she had had enough that she was laughing and so on with the media guy.
"though she was laughing, ...."
"though she was laughing, was pleasant, had good banter with the media guy in the podcast."

I miss Maggie Vessey, too bad she's done.

Don't feel bad. She's involved selling high end real estate in Utah and making one hell of a lot more money than she made or would've made in track.
Article on her from 6/21. Apologies if already mentioned, I haven't look back at all previous posts. Multiple achilles flareups as the reason for not competing at trials. Hasn't given up on career.
My personal opinion, if she is still coached by Monday, is this: You're not supposed to be BFFs with your coach. While it's not impossible to be a successful athlete and be besties with your coach, I think that's a very rare dynamic. The most common dynamic between great coach and successful athlete is: Respect and then, ideally, a little bit of fear. Going way back to the start of her career, I remember seeing pics she posted on twitter (although not sure if she's still on twitter)...Her and coach hanging by the pool looking like giggly besties. Or her and coach outside the stadium at one of the big So. Cal meets, I think just before she turned pro, also looking like they're just having the best old time.
I can't speak to Monday's knowledge and ability as a coach, although it looks like the sentiment on here isn't so favorable, but maybe if she switched coaches and gets a good match, then possibly other things will start falling into place, like getting a handle on what appears to be the unusual persistent achilles issue.
Always a fan and it always looked to me that she had/still has? an air about her like she could make major teams.

Except she doesn't need to sell real estate. Her husband is rich.
Remember the good old days when the periodic Roesler query was good for a solid two to three pages of responses?
