8x400 with 90 seconds very easy jog rest avg 74, couple of 73's, one 70. Can I break 5 for a mile? Not an all-out effort, and could've done a couple more reps.

Idk. But it’s worth trying.
If you could do them in 60 sec rest, I would have said “most likely yes”.
No. If you could run 10 x 400 in 75 with 20s rest, probably.
This is 100% possible.
Yes

Agree. Be sure not to start too fast--if you're going to make a mistake on the first 400, make it too slow.
An easy way to answer the question is to ask if it indicates <2:20 800 shape.
Not the smartest workout but yes more than likely you can break 2:20 which means < 5 is highly probable.
A better goal for you is 4:50, you need about 3-4vweeks of good training to get there.
Add some 500s and 600s, add 35s 200m reps w 55s rest.
Add some harder 3-4 mile runs < 6:10/mi
Probably, yeah.
:90 is a bit much. 8-10 x 400 w./ :60 rest is the classic predictor. But closing well and saying that it didn't feel like an all-out effort bodes well. Definitely can threaten 5.
For anybody saying no, what would you have OP go out in their next race in? Are we gonna make a huge distinction between 75 & 76?
OP, just make sure you don't blast the opening 200 & 400 of your next race. Get out in an even 75 even if that means letting people go. I could see you coming through 3 laps in 3:45 & then dropping a 72-73.
I run 4:34 for the 1600m and I’ve done 8x400m averaging 70 seconds with 1 minute rest. Smooth workout not hard at all.
