Yes I know running start, but still a very fast time trail, I would really like to see him go for that world record.

Holy crap.. Who is this guy? Absolutely flying.
Should definitely go for Grays record. With a good pacer, lights, and shoes, no doubt he can get it.
Dude is ready to crush his 1:44 PR this year. Haven't seen anyone run a 1:13 this easy.
Thought the Dutch were only good at speed skating?

Agree I'm mainly delighted by how effortless this looks. On the other hand, 1s in the 600m is more than it might sound, even more, if you include the running start. Remember, reading from Nick Symmond's training log from 2012:
Monday 11 June 2012 - 600m time trial. From a standing start in 1:13.9. .
I think you can run pretty fast 600m time trails when you don't have to deal with competitors and focus on pacing. I mean how many would have thought of Nick Symmonds as a main competitor for the 600m WR?
Still, the 600m WR is relatively weak. Van Diepen definitely has the pure speed to do it and I'm rooting for him to go for this record and to crush up his 800m this year.
Can one of the experts estimate how much time drafting off the bicyclist for the 1st 500 meters +moving start is worth? I assume it is pretty significant for those speeds.
Not much of a flying start. Not sure how much the drafting from the bike would help either as he wasn't that close to it. I suspect drafting off a runner directly in front of you would help more as it breaks more of the air in front (less streamlined, more surface area..)

It's a great time - absolutely.
So it's 1.13.9 HT which means it probably 1.14.0X/1X electronic timing making it about 1.2-1.3 seconds behind Johnnys world best.
Seems close but it's still a tough one to find 1.2 seconds at that speed - probably not squeezing out much more in the final 200m so it has to be an even hotter first lap. The standing start makes a big difference vs rolling though - when you need to get out in low 47's minimum to have a shot, then doing that from zero momentum is a more of an energy cost than we appreciate.
With that sort of ability over 600m you'd have to think a 1.44 is on the cards at a bare minimum, he held his form together well too. Good stuff.

+1
The running start is worth at least .7 seconds so you can call it a 1:14.5 FAT at best. Still very impressive, but all this says is that he is in 1:44.0 shape and is certainly no where near the 600m world record.
A good 3/5 of the country is build for the 600m.
+1
I would give him 1:43 in a fast race, so he is on the world radar for sure.
