40 - 45 might be a better target. Not that you can't do a jump up to 55, but it ends up being more of a crapshoot whether or not you can hold it or handle the volume on top of workouts.
For long term development its best to increase weekly mileage by 5 mpw every 6 months until you reach your optimal volume. What amount is optimal will vary from athlete to athlete.

What if I’m at 30 and my optimal is 130? Such a stupid rule. Increase slowly and wait for adaptations to occur and then increase again. People respond differently and some require more of an increase than others to get what they want. Rules like that hurt people’s progression unless they’re very injury prone.

every six months might be a little bit too long. I would recommend increasing by five once every two to three weeks. Then you get two weeks of feeling out the mileage before you can continue climbing. Once you get up to desired goal mileage make sure you take a down week once every month or so.
^^^this.
I was at 24 when I started in Feb., then gradually went through the 30s and felt fine. I've hit a high of 50 already but have scaled back to 42-45 and will hold it for a few weeks to make sure I handle it with no issues. I do a down week every 4th week.
