If you need a link:
My daughter probably would have gone but if you are in a state with a regular track season then no need to feel sorry for the kids. They will get a State Meet and I would also assume other National Meets will be available.

Good to hear! I'm not in USA so I'm not too familiar with how it all works. Glad to hear there will be some meets for them!

Not all schools may be part of their state's high school athletic association so cannot compete at their state championship meet and not all high school runners are on a team. They may choose to not run on a team as some I know chose years ago. Some may be home schooled as mine was so she could not compete in regional or state championship meets. For these their only chance of championship level competition was at New Balance Nationals or other national level meets.
I don't know whether or not NSAF will be holding a meet this summer. Their website say TBD for a summer meet.
no new york state meet this year. i do feel bad for the kids. seems like they should be able to pull this off.
i don't feel bad for kids who choose not to run for a school team. These types of events are put on for kids who participate in scholastic sports. They would not exist without high school sports. even if they allow kids from outside them.
That is unfortunate for your kid but you had to know there would be a lot less opportunities if you homeschool or don't have them on a team. This cancellation was very predictable. In your situation I would have been contacting every Invitational in the state to see if they allowed unattached (some will).
Probably save the parents a few thousand bucks, unless you are close.

If you are east of the Mississippi (almost 60% of population) you can drive to North Carolina so you really don't have to be that close. If you can drive you should be able to do the whole trip for under a grand. I would hope most track families can afford that. Travel volleyball, softball, baseball, tennis (and more but you get the point) probably spend that in a month.
New Balance Nationals is actually in its first year. The meet that you think of when thinking of NB Nationals was the NSAF New Balance Nationals, that partnership having been disbanded after last spring. NSAF still plans to hold their nationals meet from June 30-July 3 but has not yet announced the sponsor or venue. I too was taken back by the headline but no opportunity really is being lost for the athletes.
