I am preparing for the xc season, and I have been building up to 60 mpw. However, once I reach that goal, I will only be able to hold it for about 3 weeks before the season starts. My biggest goal is to run sub 19 this year for the 5k.
People keep telling me that I should stick with a slightly lower mileage and focus on holding that for longer, and that would be more beneficial to me, and others say that I should grind to 60. I could do 40 mpw and hold that for like 2 months, because I have a lot of time, and people say 40 mpw is more than enough for sub 19.
I just really want to meet my goal but I keep getting so many opinions and I don't know what to do! My 5k pr is 20:55 but that was from last September when I barely ran at all and didn't run a single day on the weekend. I haven't raced since then and I don't want to run a time trial until the season starts.
My mile pr is 6:08, but again, that was from last September when I only ran 25 mpw @ an 8:45 easy pace.
Right now I am running 45 mpw at an 7:50-8:00 easy pace, so I know I have improved at least a good amount but should I stop adding on mileage and focus on getting USED to the current training load?
I am so lost. I just wanna break 19 or even 18:30 but I don't know what will work out best.
