I feel that the 400m is too short and the 1500m is too long

Well, for a lot of a 400m race, you can't really tell who is where position wise to any precise degree.
I would go for the 1500m/mile. More time to build up the tension, and for the spectator to have fun running ( trying to guess/predict ) all the possible unfolding tactics/moves through his/her mind.
Marathon probably cos the finish is so unpredictable
Outside of that the 110 hurdles also for the unpredictability
4x400 is also pretty fun

Agree, 800 is best.
Its all cool through 400m. Grimacing sets in at 500m. Everyone makes that "I'm in" or "I'm out" decision about 625m.
Then, everyone who says "I'm in" dons the mask of pain for the last 100m.
Which runners will remain relaxed?
Which runners will start pedaling squares with 50m to go?
How many will face plant across the finish line?
It’s similar to a horse race.
The tactics. The time it takes to complete.
The unpredictable results.
Most likely event to have an upset.
I love the competitions that are down to the wire no matter the distance, sprints to long distance. I also love jumpers getting the crowd hyped with their clapping before their jumps. Really any athletes hyping themselves up and getting in the zone. Also officials waving their flags around like its semaphore but creating drama with subtle pauses.
The was a weird collection of clips.
No event is more exciting than a Cali, Texas and Florida HS champs 4x1 relay, those bragging rights. The NCAA's, Worlds, Olympic 4x1 can't compare when it comes to excitement. The crowds know these kids, there is history involved here.

Yes it was. Mostly unsatisfying. No idea what they were going for there.

Except for a CA, TX, or FL 4x4
I think there's a reason why the 1500/mile is the king of races. Nothing more complete than that distance. Nothing more exciting. It is 90% of the reason I watch track.
I get bored after 2 laps
I'd like to know what's up with the 800. Many of the this season's HS times don't impress. My local high school has 4 boys under 50 in the 400 but no one under 2:00 in the 800. I would think at least one of those 400 runners could break 2:00 in the 800.
Here's why Alphmale is right: in the 800 you get one chance. One. To make your move. You've got to get the timing right. You have to resist going to soon. You've got to be in the right position. You've got to gauge your fatigue. And you've got to be mentally tough, tough, tough. These days, the chances of a Dave Wottle '72 performance are very slim. A 1500 race can go out slow; an 800 can only go out slow-er. Anything close to 53 at the bell means an all-out sprint for the final 400. The 800 is the most exciting race to watch, and it is my favorite.
Forgot to make clear above that I am talking about an 800 of world-class middle-distance runners.
I would say so, yes. I love the 1500M as well.
Is it me or do pro runners run really fast but they look really slow?
Because in the Rio 1500m, they looked like they were going at 8 mile easy run pace
Look at people trying to run marathon world record pace for a minute of even a few seconds

Everything looks much slower when you are fit.
lmao runners
