Hi LRC,
28 M, 5'9, 149lbs. Starting running for the first time about 10 months ago with no history of sports. Long story short dropped a bunch of weight and became obsessed with running. Currently running 40-55 mpw (55=peak volume). Signed up for a HM at the start of the year (race is beginning of May) with the initial goal of going sub 1:40, a goal I set when I was running lower mileage.
It became apparent early on that the goal was far too soft so I've been slowly adjusting training to meet new goals as I became fitter. The past month or so I'd been shooting for sub 1:30, however I ran my first race on the weekend, a 10K, and got a 37:20. Now some of the online calculators suggest I can crack 1:25, my problem is, NONE of my longer tempo efforts have been at a the "correct" pace assuming a 1:25 finish.
My question is, does my 10k time stand alone and indicate a 1:25, or am I going to be underprepared for the longer distance closer to threshold pace if I try it as a result of inadequate training?
I'd hate to crash and burn from going out to fast, what do you guys think?
Cheers.
