Gidey losing by 10 seconds may be shocking but it shoudln't be. Tsgeay, who ran an indoor 1500 WR already this year, is in supreme form Assuming this was in Addis Ababa, it's quite an impressive time. A 14:49.7 at 7,726 feet of altitude equates to a 14:01.94 according to the NCAA altitude conversion program.
A few thoughts/observations?
1) Should we hand Tsegay Olympic gold(s) right now?
2) It's really bad that World Athletics hasn't made the 1500/5000 double (and other doubles) easier to do at the Olympics. The easiest way to promote the sport is for track and field to have big stars. People become big stars by developing a brand at the Olympics and winning multiple Olympic golds. It's hard to win multiple Olympic golds when doubles are hard to do.
World Athletics, officials, please read the following. It's not too late to change the schedule.
