Can anyone convince me that 440s & 880s aren't the best interval workouts. 220s and 330s are too easy mentally, aren't long enough for your brain to remember, lead to nonfunctional sprint speed, form breaks down. 440s are harder mentally; instead of thinking "just have to make it to 330." They force good running form and you get into a natural distance running rhythm. 880s same as 440s, but they also bring you to that threshold level that gets you ready for races. Shorter intervals like 2s and 3s don't do that. They push you to that red line. Anything over 800s are too long to run fast without adrenaline. So mile reps and 1200s don't push you to that barrier.
TLDR; 400s and 800s = optimal distance intervals for distance runners. 200s and 300s are too fast and not useful in distance, while anything over 800 is going to be too slow and thus won't prepare you to hit that threshold come race day.
