New Hampshire track coach says he was fired for not enforcing ‘senseless, irrational’ mask rules
"These insane policies are robbing kids of once in a lifetime opportunities."
“I will not stand up in front of the kids and lie to them and tell them that these masks are doing anything worthwhile out in an open field with wind blowing and the sun shining,” Keyes wrote.
https://www.boston.com/sports/coronavirus/2021/04/06/pembroke-academy-track-coach-says-fired-mask-rulesI agree with this coach - no need to wear masks outside especially with a population (teenagers) that aren't effected by the Chinese virus.
Too bad he was fired; we need more people to stand up against the fascists.
Agree or not is irrelevant.
To expect any other outcome is irrational
If he was a really good track coach then these actions are actually selfish and he's jeopardized his athlete's success and their goals this season
Instead, he's out of a job and his athlete's are to be coached by someone else. And the masks will be worn.
Allow me to introduce to you a concept called "taking a stand despite the consequences"
Ok it’s also not necessary to put a seatbelt on when you are driving 2 blocks within your neighborhood going less than 20 miles an hour. But I don’t have a moral problems lying to kids and telling them they need to put a seatbelt on in that situation. Like masks, seatbelts are but the smallest inconvenience, and the law that requires them is a measure taken by the government to protect ourselves and each other, not some Orwellian power grab that you claim. The law doesn’t define certain situations where you don’t have to wear seatbelts to account for the fact that often there is no risk of a violent high speed head-on collision. No, the law simply states wear it at all times, thus covering every possible scenario, and in doing so, ensures millions of lives are saved every year. So yeah, when a law is made requiring masks to be worn in public, of course there is gonna be situations when it’s downright useless to wear a mask, yet the law requires it. This is true of virtually every law, and it doesn’t require having a big noble moment of defiance where you refuse to do it in the name of liberty.
If you wanna know how ridiculous you sound to everybody else, imagine if you heard about some coach who got pulled over for driving without a seatbelt on the way to his neighbors, and instead of grumbling about stupid seatbelt laws, he refused the ticket, argued with the officer, resisted arrested and made a big scene and got arrested and fired from his job because he refused to concede that seatbelts are necessary when going under 20mph. Yeah he’s right, but he’s also laughably stupid because he can’t understand why the law is in place.
Respond if have any contentions to any of my points, I won’t respond however if your response involves a worldwide conspiracy.
Thank you.
It’s interesting because if he could just have remained the coach for one more season and the masks thing would be history by then. If I were the coach maybe I would suggest the kids wear Buff brand ones (or the most highly breathable ones possible) to remain feeling comfortable and competitive. Sure the times may suck that season but then it’s over and you don’t have to deal with it anymore.

wow, couch JS could make his athletes wear masks and then not take the blame for their worse performance!!!
Genius idea.
Seriously op, do you want to help or post on LRC. The actual guy has an actual post and contact details. get off your arse if you believe in him so much. post on his thread what you are doing.
Suggest mods merge the threads.
You have no points. Putting a seatbelt on to drive 2 blocks doesn’t do physical harm. Wearing a mask during an intense race does.
You aren’t nearly as smart as you think you are. And your smugness doesn’t mask that!
Resist the totalitarian leftist thugs.
Sorry, but this version of the thread isn't even funnier than the last one.

You know this doesn't make any sense logically, right?
If someone could harm themselves by racing hard with a mask on, then they could harm themselves by racing hard without the mask too. Their pace would just be a little faster without the mask. You show me some kid who can race so hard with a mask on that some sort of actual harm is caused, and I'll show you a kid who could have done the same without the mask.

ienjoyracing has pointed out a good perspective.
If one tries hard, and pretty much succeeds, at doing something like always wearing a seatbelt in the car, it becomes a habit. I did that with hats when my hair became thin up top. Now I wear a hat every time I am out, even at night or just to the mailbox.
If those on lrc who state masks are actually harmful to athletes really believe this, why aren't campaigning against doing sports at any location at an altitude above 1 km (just to pick a number) for health reasons.
I assume you will wear a mask at all times for the rest of your life? viruses will always exist and its but a minor inconvenience...
Yes, a minor inconvenience.,,
I am confused. You say seatbelts are the law but you have no moral problems with lying to kids and telling them they need to wear them?
Stopped reading after that line.
I guess Trump would give him the medal of freedom.
Just want to make sure I understand the OP’s consistency. Colleen Quigley running a race for a local non profit is “virtue signaling”, but this guy spamming his self righteous email to his employers is heroic?
+1
