Will get unlucky in XC and outkicked in track. Will run fast times during the season, though.

And then go on to a great pro career.
It could happen - like a Chris Derrick situation. I’m rooting for him though.
He really seems tough as nails the way he ran coming off of an injury.
To be fair, we don't really know what he's capable of in terms of closing speed. The only time I believe he really had to kick during a track race was his junior year of HS, when he closed in 58 to run an 8:40 3200. This makes me think that he's got a decent (but probably not fantastic) kick. Anyways, he should at least be able to win XC and a 10,000 at least once.
Or could go pro quite early. Not the dumbest take I've seen.

Agreed - that was part of the hedge in the claim as well.
And I do agree with the other poster that he will go on to have a great pro career.
I consider him to have Rupp level talent and he has a tremendous future in distance running.
Nearly happened to Goucher in xc
He did win the 3k or something

Happened to Twg, and he was, uh, pretty good.
Teg *
I'm glad you mentioned Matt Tegenkamp in this thread.
In Matt's prime, he was one of the fastest Americans, but he didn't get top regard.
We could learn from the treatment of Tegenkamp how an athlete like Young should never be slept on.
How does a nation treat a 12:58 5k runner like he is dog food?
How do coaches do that?
Learn from Tegenkamp and support Young better.

Goucher won the outdoor 5000 and was a 2x indoor 3000 champion in addition to his dominant XC win over one fo the best fields of all time.
Barely anyone gets to win an ncaa title. Not a hot take at all. In fact, he is probably more likely to NOT win one than win one--although it would obviously not be surprising if he did win given the immense talent.

13:24? Still saying he doesn't win any titles.
Freshman year ✅

Nothing from the cross race this past weekend to make me feel that my original prediction will be inaccurate.
Stop dislocating your shoulder patting yourself on the back. If a person knows anything about sport gambling &/or if a person knows anything about statistics, smart money always says bet the field.

Goucher's went 2nd (true freshman), 6th, 4th, 1 st for his xc record and was always the Buffs #1 runner.
His mindset was WAY more competitive than Nico Young, while probably possessing less talent than Young.
Same as Pre.
Young has superior talent.
(Not at all sure about his talent compared to Rupp though!)
He needs to start asserting himself more if he wants to take it to the level of these greats. He's got the tools, coaching and setting for greatness, but needs to start showing it!
Right now, Casey Clinger or Charlie Hicks look more likely to beat him again next year, not to mention Kiptoo and Wildschutt.
Not a genius take but ... wrote:

I've got more shoulders and time to recover before I do it again - don't worry!
If Nico is anywhere near as talented as Rupp, then Brosnan and Mike Smith are absolute hacks.
