I bought a new Nordictrack Commercial 1750 in late October. I typically use it for workouts or long-ish runs when the weather sucks outside, so I used it about twice a week throughout winter, and my wife would also use it about once a week for easy jogging. I'm a 155 pound mid-230s marathoner and my wife is a 120 pound recreational runner, so neither of us are putting a massive amount of weight on the treadmill. This past week, I was doing a long workout on it and with a half mile to go, I felt a soft spot in the deck. I finished up and was able to find some cracks in the deck around that area of the soft spot. Nordictrack is being a pain in the ass about replacing it on their own dime, but they said they will do so once I move it inside from the garage. Regardless of the fact that the climate is extremely dry where I live, they say it will get too humid in the garage, so they won't cover it until I move it inside. Also, apparently regardless of any forms of temperature or moisture control, they said my garage is unacceptable for storage because the garage floor "looked dirty" in my pictures and the treadmill is positioned next to a window (not sure what that has to do with breaking the deck). Pretty big wtf, but whatever. I'll move it inside to get it covered. In terms of standard upkeep and maintenance, is there anything I can do to avoid this in the future? We only had a bit over 500 miles on it before this happened. I now realize the decks are flimsy as hell, seeing that they're basically just made out of particle board. Would belt lubrication help by minimizing friction and then heat on the deck? Anything else I can do?
