His 7:55 split would have been competitive at the last four NCAA 3ks:
2016 – Cheserek ran 8:00.4; closed in 1:58/58.99/29.83 over Sean McGorty, Justyn Knight, and Izaic Yorks (600-400 covered in 28.22)
2017 – Cheserek ran 7:55.9; closed in 1:59/57.75/26.99 over Knight, Marc Scott, and Joe Klecker
2018 – Andy Trouard ran 8:04.94; closed in 1:57/55.28/26.23 over Knight, Cameron Griffith, and Grant Fisher
2019 – Morgan McDonald ran 7:52.85; closed in 1:58/54.76/26.32 over Fisher, Klecker, and Teare
I'm so excited. I had already annointed him as the guy I'm rooting for at NCAA xc simply because he was doing the double, but had never seen him run before. Wow. He's special. I like his personality, loved how he wore the gloves.

5k - 3k - 10k. I think it will catch up with him at 6k on Monday.
Stud or idiot...time will tell.

I think he should have run smarter if he is concerned about Monday at all. But he did run 27:37 in December so maybe he feels he is the class of the field even if he is a bit tired.
So he is doing a few events at ncaa indoors this weekend then doing ncaa XC on Monday?
how old is kiptoo?

He's young enough to be the grandson of some current byu runners.

I think it might catch up with him tomorrow... but I'm still rooting for him if he actually runs all 3

This topic surfaces again?
One of 2 things is true:
1. Starting your NCAA eligibility at 20 (as is common at BYU) or even 30, is perfectly within all NCAA rules.
2. There is absolutely a rule prohibiting anyone older than some certain age (perhaps 18, or 19, but not 20 since that is post LDS mission age).
If #2 is true, this rule exists in written form, online on the NCAA site, and has an actual section number and sub-section number and/or letter. Feel free to post it here. In fact there could be various rules, but it only takes 1 for these guys to be unequivocally in violation. Posting the entire section of the rulebook should cover all the places age is mentioned. Literally showing everybody interested will (one can hope) end all debate on this topic. 9-page threads about this do not need to exist anymore.
If #1 is true, many of you are apparently bitter about burning all your eligibility well before your athletic prime. For those of you all torqued off about this, let me point out it was YOUR DECISION to start your 5 years tolling 2 months after getting out of high school. From where I stand, you are simply upset that other (and faster) runners were smarter, more patient, or in some way strategically superior to you. Your move!

I don’t really have a dog in this fight, although I do think that competing in college is more entertaining if everyone is around the same age due to how the body changes and matures. That being said, people mature at different times so you’ll never get it “right”, and even the 4 yr difference between a freshman and a senior is a huge difference.
But to say someone is smarter for delaying their college start so they can be a bit better than others in a sport that brings in no money and is followed by a fraction of a percent of the population? Umm, ok. Let’s start by acknowledging that the BYU runners aren’t “smarter” for doing this, they either believe in doing a mission and therefore have personal reasons for doing this, or they are delaying a start to their actual careers and life, which I’ll go and classify as the opposite of “smart”. Could I have been better if I competed in my mid 20’s in college? Sure. Would I do that and delay the money I make in a professional setting because it’ll give me some sort of “glory” to be a decent runner in college? No. There isn’t anything special about being a bit faster in college; no money, no fame, nothing.
Is he running the 3k?
I don't see his name on the startlist.
holy triggered. this reminds me of centro on instagram
sorry, what world record alert?

Rooting for him. This is LetsRun so posters will either hate for not attempting these things but will be ready to pounce if he bombs on Monday for over extending himself.
