Obviously this is a generalization and I realize there are training differences.
However, there are two things I often see as descriptions of Kenyan and Ethiopian training:
1. Large training groups, sharing pacing responsibilities in workouts
2. While American and European runners worry about pacing themselves and finishing a workout, African runners focus on hitting the pace and end a workout if they can't run the pace
Now tell me that doesn't sound like exactly what Bowerman does. They have assembled large groups on both men's and women's sides and there are countless photos of a line of 5-10 runners in a track/interval workout. Every interview with their runners, you hear about how tough the workouts are and how they are told to run a certain pace and it takes a long time before they can finish the workout.
Doesn't it sound similar?
